WordPress Codex
A very comprehensive site for wordpress users and those learning wordpress. There’s kind of so much information it can be hard to know where to start, but once you get the “how do I phrase this question?” side of things down, this is a wonderful resource.
HTML Dog
From beginner to advanced articles, a good resource for learning css and html (for other webby junk like javascript, php, and jQuery, Russ and I have found W3Schools to be handy but many web folks get up in arms about that site).
A List Apart
An amazing website of articles and resources related to web design, coding, and the general web industry. They also have a great series of books that are worth checking out if you want to get your hands a bit more dirty.
Method and Craft
A helpful (and beautiful) website of web-related articles and interviews with movers and shakers in the industry.
Web Standardistas
These dudes know their shit. While you might think as someone newly web-cognizant that you don’t need to be reading articles and books about web design, it certainly doesn’t hurt to pay attention to what’s out there, what web folks are getting fired up about, etc.
I’m not trying to be a dick here—there are about 40 billion really good tutorial sites for wordpress alone. Web designers love to help each other out. As this site will be more of a tasting menu than an all-you-can-eat buffet, if you have a specific question or want to really dig deep into wordpress development, ask the interwebs about “great free wordpress tutorials” or somesuch.
